This past Thursday at youth group we discussed this section of second Corinthians and I found it really cool, so I thought I would share it with all of you. We talked about speaking the gospel plainly, and I had a question about this section: "...by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God." 2 Cor 4:2 NIV Do you think its expressing how we as Christians must urge others to have a clear conscience, or that we need to have a clear conscience that we might be an example to others? or both? we talked about convicting others by the way we lived and forming accountability with our friends so that our faith can be something public instead of hidden and private. I really like the image though of being a clay jar, fragile, yet made for a purpose. The focus being on what it holds not on the vessal, yet more so of how... "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." 2 Cor 4:8-10 NIV and the reason the we are not crushed is because we are not hollow. For every force that's trying to crush us there is an equal force the upholds us. We're filled with light of God and His divine knowledge that surpasses worldly wisdom. I just found that so amazing and so... refreshing.
There was more, but I think I'll leave off here.

Náriel, I am going to post a bit more than you originally put.
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost
Might it not be that we are commended to their consciences in the sight of God because we have at least tried to present the truth? If we have shared the truth with them, and tried to show them the truth, and they still will not accept, then we have done no wrong? *It's really hard to talk about things that you have no idea about. maybe if you could share more of the lesson? Or some notes that you might have taken?*

well it wasn't really a lesson, it was just a discussion of that passage. *looks over notes* goodness I take bad notes. What specifically are you asking for?

Ummm...I just wanted to know a little bit more about your discussion. I think I sounded kind of dumb, because I didn't know what I was talking about.

no you didn't sound at all dumb, you covered it in a slightly different way then I did, but I think that part of it was discussed a bit too. It just didn't make its way into my notes; consequently, I didn't write anything about it here. As I said, I'm a horrible note taker. My memory not too great either great combination, don't you think?
